    5th Annual Fukuoka Asian Art Triennale 2014

    The Fukuoka Asian Art Triennale (the Fukuoka Triennale or FT) is an international exhibition held under a different theme every three years to introduce the most up-to-date tendencies in art from 21 countries/ regions in Asia, based on the continuous researches and art exchange programs by the Fukuoka Asian Art Museum. In the 5th Fukuoka Triennale (the FT5), which commemorates the 15th anniversary of the Fukuoka Asian Art Museum, we will bring visual/media-arts as well as other forms of modern art. It will also premier the world's first footage of present-day Mongolia as well as tons of workshop and get-together programs.

    Saturday, November 8th - Tuesday (national holiday), December/ 23rd Known to be the "Picasso of Floriculture" and the originator of Sogetsu-style ikebana, Sofu Teshigahara and his artwork will be on display during this period. Extending his mastery into even calligraphy, paintings, and sculpting; he collected various pieces created by both domestic and international artists like Picasso, Milo, Taro Okamoto, Yayoi Kusama, and so on. This special event will feature both of these highly-treasured collections of his.

  • (10)Takahiro Suzuki Ikiro (Be Alive!) Art Exhibition- Sunday , October 26th

    Takahiro Suzuki (born in 1967, Osaka) has been conveying his "Life Energy" to all viewers directly by writing the word, "Ikiro" (Be Alive!) like Sha-kyo (sutra copying) as a performance in Japan as well as overseas. This exhibition will show his documented photographs of the past as well as his paintings. Also by inviting Suzuki to the museum, we will hold his performance, "Ikiro" and he will make artwork as well. The workshop with participation of the viewers will also be held to covey his art activities directly to you all.

    The Art of the Kuroda Family - the Brilliance of Daimyo TreasureTuesday, September 2nd - Sunday, September 28th

    The one hundred artworks that were transmitted to the Chikuzen Kuroda Family where Kanbee was a feudal lord of will be exhibited. Starting with the important cultural properties, "Genre Scenes of Westerners" and "Genealogy of The Tale of Genji" as well as a tea caddy called "Hakata Bunrin" which Hideyoshi desired and Kamiya Soutan retorted saying he would exchange it for a half of Japan is a famous anecdote along with screen and wall paintings, hanging scrolls, picture scrolls, lacquer wares, tea utensils and ornamental hairpins; various Daimyo treasures that decorated the castle of the Kuroda Family will be collectively introduced.

    Krishna Tale Figure Gold Sarasa 17th-18th century

    Cotton-printed imports from India were the most popular among the traders and the buyers during the Age of Discovery.
    This exhibit traces back to how the Japanese integrated them in their life through dissecting various aspects such as the ancient tea ceremony culture, etc. Also displaying are some of the rarest forms of Indian cotton prints used at that time throughout Asia and Europe.
